What's this website about?

Ever since I moved to Somerset, in 1994, I've been irritated by people saying things like, 'Where were you at that session last night, it was really good' or 'You missed a great concert - I thought you'd have been there'. I eventually realised that there is a lot of activity in the 'folk scene' in this area, but we're not terribly good at publicising things.

To try to improve matters, I started the Somerset and Dorset Folk Diary (or SaD Folk). This consists of the web site you are now reading and, more importantly, an email events listing, covering 'folk' events in Somerset and Dorset. This latter consists of a frequent (usually weekly) email of those folk music and dance events I know about in the two counties. My definition of 'folk' is fairly broadminded!

So, now you're here, what can you do?

• You can view all the events I've been told about.
• You can subscribe to the email list.
• You can find out about sessions, clubs and other regular events.
• You can send me details of an event you'd like me to publicise.
• There's a list of local morris and other dance display teams.
• There's information about local artistes — bands, callers, singers and so on.
• There's some information about various venues in the area.
• There's a "resources" page. This has information about other organisations you might be interested in and links to various relevant web sites.
• You can send me an email.
• You can help publicise SaDFolk.
• And finally, there's the obligatory Frequently Asked Questions page.
