There is a Monday evening session, 8.30 till when, at The Bull Inn, Sturminster Newton. on the left of the main road just before the bridge travelling from Blandford.
Not exactly folk, but its a true session in that you bring yourself along and join in. We already have a pianist, sax, or three, jazz guitar, base guitar or two, banjo, (the landlord Ian), Chris on the BOX BASE. Visitors are always welcome and the food is good here too, but you won't be in the way as the session is in the skittle alley just off the lounge bar.…

Folk Dance Club
A group of musicians called 'Strawberry Wine' do country dance
workshops and are booked for dances occasionally. The Club
started up in January 2002, and has become popular with a regular
group of people but newcomers are always welcome
Currently there are two fiddle players, a flautist, a melodeon
player, a recorder player who also helps with the calling, a bass
guitar player, a banjo and guitar player and a caller doing the
occasional spurt on the bodhran. Our evenings are full of fun and
if you find time, why not come along for an evening to see what we
are about.

The Legion premises are just off the Wimborne Square, in Westboro’ and ‘though there is limited parking, the large car park at the rear in Westfield Road is free in the evenings.
A friend writes...
the beer is (amazingly) cheap and the acoustics are good. There are some good singers/instrumenalists and a genuinely collegiate atmosphere! i.e. everyone is welcome amd newcomers are encouraged.

Dances are drawn mostly from the folk traditions of Britain, Israel, the Balkans and other "World Music", often to very beautiful music. They may be symbolic or frivolous, vigorous or meditative, exciting or soothing - or just plain fun! Some are active and powerful, others are very gentle and inward looking.
Dancing is in the form of a circle so no partner is required. All dances are led by an experienced teacher so no prior skill is needed either.
Everyone is welcome - any age, any sex, any dance experience or none.
